Marc Padrutt | a corn and soybean farmer from Illinois
"I'm Mark Padrutt. I farm here at Decatur, Illinois. We farm corn and soybeans. I've been farming full-time since the year 2000. On our farm, we're conventional till, we're heavy on corn on corn, so residue management is, important. I've been using the 20|20 monitor for years in the planter. It was just a natural fit to go with the vApplyHD for sidedress application.
Last fall, we were only able to apply anhydrous on one particular field. So, this was the perfect year for vApplyHD.
I wanted to apply more in the spring, and so this was the perfect product to, to do that with. I think fall, nitrogen still has its place on some acres, but, increasingly, but we're gonna rely more on the, split application and sidedress application. Agronomics is what really drove my, my choice. I wanted accuracy, and I wanted split application, and the vApplyHD does that for me.
The 20|20 helped me identify a couple of issues I had. One was, I had a couple of knives I had backed up a little bit and immediately told me you've got two plugged knives. So I went back and cleared those up. The other issue I had was, with the installation since this was a new bar.
The outside rows were being under-applied. And you saw that on the 20|20 immediately.
So after searching on the bar, I realized that we had two ninety degree fittings on there that were restricting the flow a little bit. I rerouted the hose. And, I'm back in the tractor and the row-by-row accuracy was back. So, I wouldn't have seen that without the 20|20 and vApplyHD.
This year after the, challenging spring, we were able to, sidedress on a timely basis. Right after that application, we received rain again, and the corn just the tremendous.
I remember attending one of the Precision Planting Winter Conferences, and there was a banner hanging there. It said, 'Yield is in the details.' And, Precision Planting products helped me address those details."
