What is the agronomic benefit of variable hybrid seeding?

In any field, there are multiple yield environments that are determined by soil type, slope, drainage, and dozens of other attributes. Research has shown solid yield improvement when “Offensive” and “Defensive” hybrids are placed in the right yield environment. For example, Beck’s Hybrids Practical Farm Research has observed an average yield gain of 9.5 bu/acre in their 2012/2013 studies. How does vSet Select work?

The 20/20 SeedSense system is required to run vSet Select. SeedSense sends GPS, target seeding rate, and target hybrid to the Single Row Module (SRM) mounted on the row. The SRM utilizes the GPS, Radar and Gyro inputs to calculate highly accurate row-specific velocity and sends the motor command to the vDrive Motor Module (VDM). To switch between hybrids, one motor stops, and the other motor instantaneously starts.

Do both meters in vSet Select have similar performance?

Yes, at their core, both meters are built on vSet technology with bestinclass singulation performance.

Does vSet Select allow for row-by-row control?

Yes, vSet Select allows for row-by-row control of both the hybrid and its population.

Is vSet Select compatible with a standard seed tubes?

Yes, vSet Select is compatible with standard finger meter and vacuum seed tubes.

How do I make a dual-hybrid prescription for the vSet Select system?

Any mapping software can make the two-hybrid prescription shape file that is used by the vSet Select system. The population for for hybrid A is contained in a one attribute and the population for hybrid B is contained in another attribute. When a hybrid isn’t planting, its population is simply set to zero. vSet Select also allows for the operator to manually switch from one hybrid to another.

Can I use my existing vDrive system with vSet Select?

vDrive is required for vSet Select. And yes, you can use your existing vDrive with vSet Select. As well, vSet Select utilizes the same SRM electronic architecture as vDrive and DeltaForce.

What are the electrical requirements of vSet Select?

vSet Select has similar electric requirements as vDrive and DeltaForce. The current SRM harness and electronic infrastructure supports vSet Select.

How fast can the change be made from one hybrid to other?

The change from one hybrid to the other is made instantaneously at planting speed, with excellent accuracy as controlled by the vDrive system.

Is vSet Select compatible with SpeedTube?

At this time, vSet Select is not compatible with SpeedTube.

What crops can vSet Select plant?

vSet Select is supports planting corn and soybeans. There are meter kits available for other crops, but they have not been tested with the various seed delivery systems.

What makes and models is vSet Select compatible with?

vSet Select is available on Kinze 3600/3660 ASD models and John Deere 1770NT Pro Series CCS planters. Additionally, it is available for Deere Bauer DB60 24 row 22" and DB 24 row 30" models.

How do I make the prescription file for vSet Select?

vSet Select is controlled through standard shape file prescriptions (.shp, .shx, and .dbf) that can be created using most common desktop mapping softwares. For each management zone simply create multiple attributes, one for each hybrid. Apply population “0” for the hybrid that isn’t planting in that zone.
